Archipelago Brijuni

Album: National Parks, Region: Istria

The Brijuni archipelago is situated in front of the western coast of Istria. The islands comprise three main islands: Veli Brijun (Big Brijun), Mali Brijun (Small Brijun) and Vanga as well as several islets and reefs. The coasts of the islands are well indented. Due to its favourable geographic position and low terrain, Brijuni Islands are known for their mild climate. Croatia have 472 sq km of national park on land and 224 km that compose the Kornati Islands. Risnjak National Park south of Zagreb is the most untouched forested park, partly because the climate at its higher altitudes is somewhat inhospitable - an average temperature of 12. Istria is the largest peninsula in the Adriatic Sea.
