Waterfalls in Plitvice
Album: National Park Plitvice Lakes , Region: National Parks
The exceptional beauty of the lakes and waterfalls, rich plant and animal life, contrasting colours, forests and the pure mountain air, comfortable hotels and rustic restaurants attract many nature lovers from all over the world. The waterfalls of Plitvice Lakes National Park were formed by mosses that retain calcium carbonate as river water rushes through the karst. Travertine, or tufa, builds up sprouting plants which grow on top of each other to create barriers to the river. Croatia have 472 sq km of national park on land and 224 km that compose the Kornati Islands.
