In addition to the Croatian language, most Croats are proficient in at least one other foreign tongue. In the interior, the second language is likely to be German and from Istria through Southern Dalmatia, Italian is the second language of choice.

English-speakers will have little trouble getting around in most parts of Croatia since most people in tourist offices, travel agencies, hotels, camping grounds and restaurants speak at least some English. Only in the Zagorje region and in eastern Slavonia will the lack of German prove something of a handicap.
