800 year old Romanesque house in Porec

Visit the 800 year old Romanesque house in Porec, one of the most attractive Istrian destinations on the Istrian town of Porec is not only the largest tourist town in Croatia, known for its hotels and lagoons, rather it is also one of the most important historical locations in Croatia. The best known Porec historical and cultural locality is of course the Euphrasian Basilica which is also a protected art monument of the international organization UNESCO.

Aside from the Euphrasian Basilica however, the whole old town emanates with history and well preserved historical sights. The attention of tourists is attracted by old gothic or Romanesque palaces or for example the paving on the streets which in places is from old Rome. We were particularly fond of the less prominent historical sights in Porec - the canonical house from the Romanesque period which is more than 800 years old and excellently preserved. From its exterior fasade and shape one can already observe the excellently preserved typical Romanesque style.

The lower part of the house is made of stone, while the upper part is dominated by wooden terraces like a crown on the building. In its form this house represents a unique monument of its time and shows us, even today, what the houses of affluent families looked like on the Eastern side of the Adriatic over 800 years ago. It's interior represents the spirit of past times in the layout of the rooms, but also in the historical furniture of the time. In any case be sure to visit this house if you are visiting in Porec.
